This year's Education Week will be held from Monday 6 August to Friday 10 August 2018 (Term 3, Week 3). The theme for Education Week is ‘Today's schools – creating tomorrow's world'. This theme communicates how NSW public schools are equipping young people with the skills and capabilities they need to thrive in a rapidly changing, globalised world. Term 1 After School Sports Program

AFL After School Program

Blaxcell Street Public School will be hosting an After School AUSKICK Centre. This will allow students to enjoy a safe and fun 4-week sports program for boys and girls starting on Monday 12th February, 2018. The cost of the program is $10. Winner of Premier's Reading Challenge NewsLocal Words and Art Competition

Winner of Premier's Reading Challenge NewsLocal Words and Art Competition. Suenna from 6D has won the 2017 Premiers Reading Challenge NewsLocal Words & Art competition in the Years 3 – 6 category with her amazing illustration and review of Roald Dahl's The Witches. Suenna's entry was culled from a total of 53 entries in the Years 3 – 6 category, from schools all around the state. Cultural Exchange Day with Thornleigh West Public School. On 15th November, 5T had an amazing day on cultural exchange with Thornleigh West Public School. As they were visiting us, we provided hospitality by sharing some food from the cultures represent at Blaxcell Street Public school. Oz-Tag Gala Day

Canterbury Oz-Tag Gala Day. On Tuesday 21st of November, 50 students from across 3-6 participated in the Canterbury Oz-Tag Gala Day. There were 5 teams that competed on the day; a 3/4 mixed team, a year 5 girls team, a year 6 girls team, a year 5 boys team and a year 6 boys team. These students played 4-5 consecutive games on the day and competed against a range teams from 10 different schools. Avaani represents Sydney West in Soccer

Avaani represents Sydney West in Soccer. Congratulations to Avaani from 5D for making the Sydney West PSSA Girls Soccer. She represented Blaxcell Street Public School at the PSSA State Championships. A three day carnival that had 14 teams from all over New South Wales compete against each other. Avaani had the honours of being vice-captain of the Sydney West team during the carnival, a major achievement given the fact that she was the youngest in the team. BSPS Gardening Club

The BSPS Gardening Club - by Natalie, 6D What is the Gardening Club? In the gardening club we help the school's gardens to flourish, all the while planting more. Our school recently established the club in 2015 and have been going along excellently since then. 2018 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2017, all NSW public schools will receive a 2018 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. Watermelon and Zooper Dooper Day. On Tuesday 24 October, the students of Blaxcell Street Public School excitedly lined up to purchase watermelon and Zooper Doopers. The line was gigantic but the students waited patiently as they knew the treats would be refreshing and that it was all for a good cause. The proceeds from the sale of watermelon and Zooper Doopers went toward the school's Not Just Pocket Money initiative which is raising money to assist Muslim Aid Australia in building a school in Tanna Island, Vanuatu. Not Just Pocket Money. Over the past 7 years, students and the school community have raised over $17,000 for various international and local aid projects. This year, we are raising funds for an international project through Muslim Aid Australia for a schooling project in Tanna Island, Vanuatu. The Tanna Schooling Project aims to provide essential hygiene, education and health on Tanna Island. The facility will also provide primary, secondary and tertiary education. NDIS continues its roll out across NSW

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) started in NSW in July 2016, rolling out across half of the state. The rollout for the rest of NSW started on 1 July 2017 and the NDIS will be fully rolled out by mid 2018. The NSW government is writing to the families of children and young people with disability who currently receive disability supports in the rollout areas to advise how and when they will enter the NDIS. On Tuesday 1st August, 48 students attended the Auburn Zone Athletics Carnival at Sydney Olympic Warm Up Arena in Homebush. Blaxcell Street celebrated NAIDOC week with flair this year. A big thank you to the people who made this possible; Desmond and his team from the AECG, the Aboriginal dance group from Chester Hill High School and all of the families who joined us for the day. Blaxcell Street Spelling Bee 2017. On Thursday 22 June, Blaxcell Street Public School held its 2nd Annual Spelling Bee Competition.
