Each year the Librarian oversees a number of special events.
This year they include:

  • Book Fair

  • This will run from 18th – 22nd May and will allow students and parents to purchase a range of brand new books that will be on display in the library. All proceeds will go towards purchasing supplies for the library.

  • Book Week

  • Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians develop activities, offer competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. This year Book Week will run from 22nd -28th August.

During Book Week Blaxcell Street Public School will hold a performance of Jungle Bungle that will celebrate the short listed Australian Children’s books of the year.

  • Premier’s Reading Challenge

  • Last year saw over 200 students from Blaxcell Street complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge, which was a fantastic effort, but one that I hope we can top this year. To complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge all students need to do is read a certain amount of books from the PRC list. Kindergarten to Year 2 students must read or have read to them 30 books, while years 3 to 6 students must read 20 books. There are a number of rules regarding the challenge so for further information please see ask the Librarian.
