Each year the Librarian oversees a number of special events. This year they include:
Book Fair
This will run from 18th – 22nd May and will allow students and parents to purchase a range of brand new books that will be on display in the library. All proceeds will go towards purchasing supplies for the library.
Book Week
Each year, many schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books and Australian authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians develop activities, offer competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading. This year Book Week will run from 22nd -28th August.
During Book Week Blaxcell Street Public School will hold a performance of Jungle Bungle that will celebrate the short listed Australian Children’s books of the year.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Last year saw over 200 students from Blaxcell Street complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge, which was a fantastic effort, but one that I hope we can top this year. To complete the Premier’s Reading Challenge all students need to do is read a certain amount of books from the PRC list. Kindergarten to Year 2 students must read or have read to them 30 books, while years 3 to 6 students must read 20 books. There are a number of rules regarding the challenge so for further information please see ask the Librarian.
